BoonDocker GPS Setup

BoonDocker is compatible with a Smartphone's Internal Hardware GPS (if available) or External Bluetooth GPS devices like Garmin 10 and 10x.


Auto Bluetooth Selection

Automatically Select an External Bluetooth GPS without setting up a Bluetooth Partnership first.

User must have Bluetooth Enabled on the Smartphone.  User can click the Bluetooth Icon on the Today Page and then click the "Turn On Bluetooth" Check box.  User can also set the Bluetooth mode by selecting Start >> Settings >> Connections Tab >> Bluetooth and then click the "Turn On Bluetooth" Check box.  No other Bluetooth options are required:  Don't setup a New Partnership or Don't setup Ports.

If  your phone has a GPS Settings leave the GPS Program and Hardware Port to None.

Make sure the Garmin or compatible GPS device is turned ON.

Start BoonDocker.

Select Menu >> GPS Setup.
Select Auto Bluetooth Selection.
No need to select the COM Port, Auto Bluetooth Selection always uses COM0.
Click OK.

Selects the Start Menu button on the left to start loading the BoonDocker files.  BoonDocker will display a map centered around the current coordinate sent from the GPS.

On some Smartphones this mode may not work. User will get an Error.  "Cannot Auto Detect. Create Partnership!".   Create a Manual Bluetooth Pairing and it should work fine.

Manual Bluetooth Pairing

Allows the user to select an External GPS connected to Bluetooth via a Partnership (Pairing).

User must have Bluetooth Enabled on the Smartphone.  User can click the Bluetooth Icon on the Today Page and then click the "Turn On Bluetooth" Check box.  User can also set the Bluetooth mode by selecting Start >> Settings >> Connections Tab >> Bluetooth and then click the "Turn On Bluetooth" Check box. 

User must create a Partnership (Pairing) to the External GPS.  User needs to setup or note the Outgoing COM Port Number.

If  your phone has a GPS Settings leave the GPS Program and Hardware Port to None.

Make sure the Garmin or compatible GPS device is turned ON.

Start BoonDocker.

Select Menu >> GPS Setup.
Select Manual Bluetooth Pairing.
Select the COM Port number.  Use the Outgoing COM Port number selected or noted during Partnership creation.
Click OK.

Selects the Start Menu button on the left to start loading the BoonDocker files.  BoonDocker will display a map centered around the current coordinate sent from the GPS.

Use Internal GPS

Allows the user to select the Smartphone's Internal GPS (if available).

No Bluetooth Options are required.

On your phone's GPS Settings leave the GPS Program Port to None and set the Hardware Port to that specified in the Smartphone's Documentation.

Start BoonDocker.

Select Menu >> GPS Setup.
Select Use Internal GPS.
Select the COM Port number.  Use the Hardware Port specified in the GPS Settings setup.
Click OK.

Selects the Start Menu button on the left to start loading the BoonDocker files.  BoonDocker will display a map centered around the current coordinate sent from the GPS.

No GPS Available - Work Off-Line

BoonDocker will not try to connect to the GPS device and only work Off-Line. 

No need to select the COM Port, Working Off-Line requires none.
Click OK.

Selects the Start Menu button on the left to start loading the BoonDocker files.  BoonDocker will display a map centered around the current card data set.

Menu Buttons

Press Menu Buttons along bottom of Dialog to initiate selected option.

OK Saves current settings of the dialog then Exits.

BoonDocker will automatically save options in mygpssetup.txt.

File is always stored in the Phone Memory in the My Documents/My BoonDocker directory.

Once file is saved user can simply click the Start Menu with same GPS Setup Options.
Cancel Cancels the current settings reverting to setting prior to loading the dialog then Exits.
